STUDY REVEALS WHAT AUSSIE TENANTS ARE LOOKING FOR IN A RENTAL PROPERTY
The recent release of the Optus’ Renter of the Future Study, conducted by McCrindle Research, highlights the five most important features a tenant is looking for in a rental property.
Unsurprisingly the top two were parking (38%) and pet-friendly (32%). Cable internet connection (31%), strong mobile signal (25%) and the number of power points in a room were also important.
Today’s renters are tech savvy so accessing the internet quickly in a new rental property is essential for them.
The research reveals that 3 in 10 people are choice renters. Mark McCrindle said “There’s this idea that the great Aussie dream is to move into a home that you own and if you haven’t done that then the dream hasn’t come true for you. But with generational changes that’s just not true. You’ve got a lot of people who are choice renters because they prefer the lifestyle. And they themselves might be landlords so financially they are rocketing ahead”.
The study reveals that 30% of Australians rent so that is more than own their own home outright. They are twice as likely to live in medium to high density housing than the average Australian, they are years younger and they move more frequently – on average 1.8 years.
Three main things they like about renting are:
- Ability to change locations easily
- Easier to upsize or downsize as needed
- Flexibility to travel for extended periods of time
