The Surprising Way AI is Like Teenage Sex — Explained
Last week, we attended the Connective Mortgage Broker State Conference at RACV Cape Schank — a great opportunity to learn, connect, and gather fresh ideas (plus eye-opening AI insights) to support our clients on their homeownership journey.
One standout presentation was futurist Michael McQueen talking about where AI is really at right now. His analogy was memorable — Teenage Sex:
- Everyone’s talking about it
- Not many are actually doing it
- Those who are… well, let’s just say not many are doing it well
- And there are definitely some safety issues around it
💡 His tip: Once AI has worked with you for a while, ask it to call out your top 3 professional blind spots. Talk about a reality check. Ouch!
Mortgage brokers are now writing over 77% of all loans, and while the banks are trying to claw back some of that with online lending, the landscape for loans has become so complicated over the years that quality advice is now more important than ever. We brokers have become champions of choice, transparency, and competition. People obviously choose brokers because it is better for them.
An interesting economic update by Ben Forrester from Macquarie, who suggested fewer rate decreases now and in the future, with possibly only one or two next year, so those under 5% fixed rates on offer are starting to look a lot more attractive.
Mark Matthews gave an inspiring talk on his Big Wave surfing career and injuries, and gave us his learnings: Send a text at least once a month thanking someone for their contribution to your life. It makes you and them feel better.
