Lessons from the Camino: Patience, Persistence, and Property

What a 100km walk taught me about patience and progress in property

They do say travel is broadening – well, for me, definitely on the hips. We’ve just returned from six weeks in Europe — and yes, one of the joys of my property work is that it can travel with me. I walked the last 100kms of the Camino in Spain, sailed the coast of Croatia with my business group – Business Blueprint, and visited Italy and Slovenia.

While I was definitely the slowest walker on the Camino track, my persistence paid off. I almost caught up to one disabled chap, but he beat me on the downward slope where my knee gives me extra grief. James, being the amazingly fit person he is, managed to run each day after working first.

But somewhere along those long, reflective paths through the Spanish countryside, it hit me: this experience mirrors what I see with my most successful property investor clients.

It is not the ones with the most income or those who buy and sell quickly who end up with the most money from investing. It is those who patiently wait and persist in the market long after others have got fed up and left.

It’s not the fastest who finish strongest. It’s not the ones with the biggest income or those chasing the next big thing.

It’s the steady, consistent ones — those who keep walking, even when the novelty wears off. The ones who don’t get distracted by short-term dips or shiny objects..

Successful investing doesn’t require complex strategies or clever tricks — it’s about endurance. It’s about staying the course when others lose patience. The clients who build true, lasting wealth are the ones who pay down debt, live within their means, and invest for the long haul. They focus less on “stuff” and more on what really adds value — family, experiences, and time.

Just like the Camino, the journey to financial freedom isn’t about how fast you go — it’s about putting one foot in front of the other, day after day, with a clear destination in mind.

 Let’s talk about what’s possible.
