Savings Account Deals

ING are offering $75 Cash back when you open a new Orange Everyday account and deposit $1000 in your first month and use it to make 5 card purchases before May 31. It is a very convenient process to open online. Click here for the details. They have a user friendly app and free international ATM usage so once you get your $75 you can either keep it or close it but here you get money for very little effort. And you can use Apple Pay too (seems this is very important according to my 20 year old son).
Travelling overseas or using your debit card to buy things from overseas
Sick of being charged foreign exchange fees? Well now numerous banks have seen the light and have removed international exchange fees on transactions involving foreign currencies. Banks I have found do this include NAB, ING, Citibank and Westpac.
The NAB Classic Account is one of these and you can receive 1% cashback on contactless purchases with a NAB Platinum Visa debit card and enjoy complimentary overseas travel insurance (conditions apply so click here if you like to know more about this product).
https://www.canstar.com.au is the largest financial comparison website in Australia and well worth a look when you want to find out information about banking products.
Interest Rates – Are they getting cheaper?
There are numerous what are termed “Bait and Switch Pricing” interest rates on offer at the moment and while they seem fantastic, may cause you a lot more grief in the long term. Note some lenders offer fantastic interest rates for a year or two but then switch rates to a standard variable which has NO discount at all. Those foolish enough to get suckered into “cheap rates” which are not cheap for long, may find they cannot refinance at the end of the period as the way loans are serviced may have changed and they can become stuck between a rock and a hard place. Note these sneaky strategies are also used by Real Estate Agents trying to lure you in with low property prices although this is proving less of a problem at the moment as prices decline.
NB All the above offers are subject to lenders terms and conditions, fees and charges and eligibility criteria apply.

SAFETY WARNING FOR GAS HEATERS

We have recently been alerted to a potential problem with some Vulcan Heritage or Pyrox Heritage heaters so if you have one in your home or rental property, please contact your agent to get it tested urgently.  Below is an image of most models involved but please check your gas heater badging to be sure.  Stop using the heater immediately as Consumer Affairs Victoria have issued a SAFETY ALERT.

With thanks,

Quote of the Day:
“Financial peace isn’t the acquisition of stuff. It’s the learning to live on less than you make, so you can give money back and have money to invest. You can’t win until you do this.”
